Annie W. Fall (nee McQuiston), most commonly known as Mina, passed away on February 17, 2024. Mina lived a long life. She demonstrated her quiet competitive streak living four weeks and one day past her 100th birthday. Mina is survived by three of her children: David McQuiston-Fall, and Mina and Lisa Fall. Her husband, Bud, and her son, Stephen, predeceased her. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mina was a maker. First and foremost, she was a homemaker, creating a safe and comfortable home full of laughter, books, conversation and natural silences. For many years that home was at the top of Queen Anne, near Five Corners. Her family friends knew it as 415.
Mina was also a great craftswoman. She made well-loved clothes for her children, reflecting their personalities and styles. She also made clothes for her grandchildren, and quilts to commemorate important events. She did not keep her talents to herself and her family. She made needlepoint kneelers for two churches, Saint Paul’s and Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Churches in the Seattle area. She belonged to Quilters Anonymous, hosting a satellite group at her home and making quilts for premature babies she would never meet. Mina also embroidered, crocheted, and sewed innumerable items for church bazaars and school fundraisers.
Mina also loved the water. She liked to watch the waves at Golden Gardens, on the Pacific Coast and anywhere else she could find them. As a child and teenager, while living in Greenwood, Mina swam competitively, across the lengths of Green Lake, the WAC pool, Lincoln Park Pool and many other places in and around Seattle.
While Mina spent most of her life in Seattle, she spent about 15 years crisscrossing the country with her family and husband while he was in the Army. During that time, they moved from Seattle to Alaska to Arizona to Pennsylvania to Japan, then back to Seattle, home for good. Her stoicism and pragmatism saw her through all those moves and new places.
Most of all Mina was a kind person who helped those who needed help, providing rides, cooking meals, and being unfailingly polite. She is mourned.
