Mary Patricia Olson Mitchell

Mary Patricia Mitchell (Olson), aged 62, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 1:20 am at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Patricia was born in 1954, in Vancouver, BC, to Monica and Wilfred Olson. A lover of music, she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of British Columbia, and went on to earn her Master's of Music from the University of Washington. Patricia was a beloved piano teacher, instilling the love of piano in students of all ages for over 30 years. Patricia married Paul on January 15, 1983. She is survived by her husband, Paul, daughters Courtney (Kimberly Portnoy) Mitchell, Shannon (Todd) Sand, and Kerry (Peter) McManus, brother Martin (Phyllis) Olson, and niece Linnea Olson. Patricia enjoyed spending time with her family, her three pets, and her many friends. She is described as a wonderful friend, a welcoming and gracious hostess who loved to entertain, a voracious reader, a tremendously talented and patient teacher, a loving mother and soon to be grandmother. She had a playful personality and wonderful sense of humor. She will be sadly missed but remembered with much love. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24th at 1:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 2330 Viewmont Way West, Seattle, WA 98199 with reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s honor can be made to the Music Fellowship Fund at University of Washington School of Music, or to the music program at the Church of the Ascension.
