Mary Theresa (Range) Buike (Age 54) passed away at home in Mountlake Terrace from complications related to Advanced Ovarian Cancer - a disease she battled successfully for more than 3 years; and throughout which she maintained her inspiring smile and an always positive attitude.
She was dearly loved by her family and is survived by her husband, Kim Buike; her mother, Rita (Schaub) Range; her brother, Roger F. (Buchanan) Range Jr.; her daughter, Christina Marie Range; and her granddaughter, Olivia Marie Range. She is also survived by 3 stepchildren (Cory, Casee and Christy) and 2 step-grandchildren (Molly and Jack). She was preceded in death by her father Roger F. Range Sr.
Mary absolutely loved the outdoors and was forever grateful to her family for her childhood exposure to snow skiing, hiking, camping, biking, sailing and gardening (her favorite lifelong pastime). Family activities and gatherings were the events she most enjoyed throughout her life.
Mary was a graduate of Seattle University and worked most of her life in the medical field: beginning as an orderly in the Radiology Department at Northwest Hospital and then as a medical biller and eventually as a Certified Physicians' Coder (CPC) with UW Physicians in Seattle.
Mary's early cancer symptoms were misdiagnosed and the disease reached an advanced stage before being identified and treated. As a result of her cancer experience, Mary actively advocated for increased awareness and early detection of Ovarian Cancer so there are more survivors in the future than is currently the case. Therefore, in lieu of cards/flowers, Mary and her family request donations be made in her memory to the Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer (www.rivkin.org) in Seattle to support their educational efforts to increase awareness, and their research efforts to improve early detection and find a cure.
