"I was born in my parents’ house about 5 miles outside Metaline Falls, Washington Pend Oreille County, July 16, 1916. In 1922, I was enrolled in first grade at Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Boarding School. That year I was found to have a defective heart. In 1923 we were sent to Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Tekoa, Washington.
In 1926, I was enrolled in 7th grade at Metaline Falls, Washington. Because of impassible roads, I boarded with the Oswald family during the week and went home on weekends. I entered North Central High School in Spokane, Washington in 1929 boarding with family friends. I graduated from North Central High School in 1933. I went home to Metaline Falls for every summer vacation and for Christmas.
In the fall of 1929, I enrolled at a Comptometer School. The comptometer was a calculator, and since I had taken commercial courses in high school, this was to add to my skills. My first job was for Montgomery Ward verifying invoices and filling in wherever help was needed.
I married Edward G. Thompson in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Spokane, WA, on April 27, 1935."
