Marjorie Jane Voltz, passed into the Lord’s everlasting arms at 11:20 PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in Seattle, WA. Her passing was peaceful and expected. We are grateful to the wonderful staff in the Memory Care Unit of Foss Home and Village for the loving care and gracious support they provided for Mom and our family.
Marjorie was born to Emily and Charles Reem on April 20, 1931, in Aitkin. She is proceeded in passing by her siblings Gilbert Reem, Shirley Moe (Reem), and Benjamin Reem.
Known as “Midge” to all, she grew up on the shores of Mille Lacs Lake in Aitkin County, attended Cutler School through eighth grade, and graduated from Aitkin High School. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart Roy R Voltz, and moved to Burbank, California. Midge and Roy gave birth to four sons, Randy, Dale, Jeff, and Brian. She had wonderful skills as an administrative secretary, bookkeeper, and salesperson.
The family had many wonderful friendships with other Burbank families from Central Elementary School, the YMCA Indian Guides, and Luther Memorial Church. She was also a wonderful ambassador for sunny California activities, taking her Minnesota relatives to Disneyland, Dodger Stadium, and over to Toluca Lake to see Bob Hope’s house. All the holidays were celebrated with their best friends Ned and Esme Labbe, and their three sons Bob, Ned, and Gary.
In 1994 Midge and Brian moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where they enjoyed a wonderful life together for 24 years. These were the best days for Midge as she enjoyed small town and community life, her fellowship at Detroit Lakes United Methodist Church, the Minnesota summers and all of those lakes, as well as summertime visits from family and friends. Midge was totally in her element deep frying Sunny filets and setting out a spread of tasty food to complement the fish fry.
A loving and very much loved Mom and Nana, Midge is survived by her four sons Randy, Dale, Jeff, and Brian Voltz, daughter-in-law Wanitta Voltz, grandchildren Jennifer Bradshaw, Heather Suri, Carrie Watson, Joshua Voltz , and Heidi Peace, and great grandchildren Max, Brayden, and Camryn Bradshaw, Gabriel Moura, Sulaiman, Safiya, and Faizan Suri, Allegra and Elspeth Watson, and Carter and Colin Peace.
Midge had a special relationship with her youngest son Brian. As a developmentally delayed child, boy, and man, Brian had many special needs. Midge’s love, care, teaching, and advocacy for Brian was boundless. This care and advocacy led to a lifetime of tireless service to Brian’s community as founder, hearty participator, and leader in the communities of Burbank, CA and Detroit Lakes, MN. Brian now lives in Ferndale, WA close to his brothers Dale and Jeff, and his sister-in-law Nita.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to these two wonderful community service organizations that have had such a positive impact on Brian’s life and so many others like him. Please look below under Donations.
