Born December 23rd, 1934 in Elmira, New York, to Kenneth and Esther Moore. She was the younger sister to Kenneth Gerald Moore (2008).
After an idyllic childhood that included sailing, horseback riding and rich friendships that she maintained throughout her life, she spent several years as a stewardess, crossing the country with United Airlines. Marilyn married Joseph Anthony Mascis in Port Washington, NY in 1960.
She and Joseph had two children, Christopher Alan (1960) and Amy Moore (1967).
After her family settled in Bellevue, Washington in the early 70s, Marilyn started working as a playground attendant for the Bellevue School District. Her passion for working with exceptional education children led to years in a job she cherished with young people she adored, and finally a bachelor’s degree in the subject from Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Marilyn treasured her role as Joe’s wife and mother to Amy and Christopher — she embraced every moment with them. She was also fortunate to be able to enjoy her grandchildren Alexander (24) and Nathanial (22), on their journey to the fine young adults they’ve become.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph, of Black Diamond, her son, Christopher (Stephanie); daughter Amy and grandsons Alexander and Nathanial, as well as several nieces and nephews. We will always cherish the joy that Marilyn brought to her life, and ours.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring. Donations may be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared below for the Mascis family.
