Uncle Loren really had a great influence on many different lives and different peoples. I always enjoyed the times we would all get together for family reunions. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a joke ready to be told. He loved Ruth unconditionally and he loved his children deeply.  He was the kind of man who was humble and not afraid to ask for advice, nor did he shrink from giving advice when he was asked. Honesty and integrity was how he lived. Going back to the family reunions, I remember when all five brothers were together along with their mother, Grandma Sophia. I loved to listen to the uncles because they were also telling jokes and stories all day long.  I could have sat for hours but my cousin Laurelee kept me going with all her stories and jokes.  And, of course, putting us two girls together we would always try to pull jokes on them. ("worms" in the green salad, etc., etc.) They never acted surprised. I remember the times when Richard and I, along with Mom and Dad, would travel by car to North Dakota when we were just little.  We would leave in the early evening and travel through the night in our black oldsmobile, sleeping solid in the back seat.. We would arrive at Grandma's and Grandpa's and often find our other uncles there, especially when Uncle Loren and Aunt Ruth could come. I remember a time that my Dad was going through a real, real rough time in his life.  I happened to be visiting my folks and I was extremely worried about my Dad. Then Uncle Loren  called him two or three times a week and Dad would call him. My soul quieted when I knew my Dad was opening up to his older brother and getting good advice from his older brother. Then when my Dad died, Uncle Loren was right there to bring comfort and help me sort through my feelings as well as Uncle Alan and Uncle Bob.  I always admired the respect and honor my dad and his brothers showed each other even when they were miles apart for so many years.  They were there for each other no matter what. What a legacy they all left us and still so through Uncle Bob. Uncle Harold died young but Uncle Loren, being the oldest now, led us all to focus on God. Young and old. "In quietness and confidence is our strength." Those words describe Uncle Loren and we thank him for his life here on earth.

Uncle Loren was very talented.  It seems to have run in the family.  The brothers were talented with their hands.  My favorite memory of Uncle Loren was the time he took me all of the way to Seattle from Montana by train to see the World's Fair.  I was 15 and really enjoyed time in Seattle.  I got to know my cousins and Aunt Ruth.  Uncle Loren took me out fishing, and all we caught were dog shark. That did not matter to me, since I was a land lubber and had not been to the ocean.  Grandma and Grandpa sure did a great job raising their sons.  Unfortunately, I only met Grandpa a few times.

God bless you Larry and Lyle.  Your folks both had a lot of good Godly influence on many people.

Pastor Wahl was my pastor at Maple Leaf. I had high regard for his studiousness and study of the Bible. I think his model became mine as I later went to Bible school (Multnomah) and seminary (Dallas Theological Seminary). I was also friends with son, Lyle.

As I watched the Wahl boys interact, (my father was Loren's younger brother and middle son of 5 brothers) I grew to appreciate their effort to connect with each other even though separated by so many miles.  And I wonder if Grandma Sophia had a big influence in them.  She was such a special woman, always finding humor in life and she exercised much effort to encourage others.  They lived out her love for life so well.  
I will miss that solid, quiet strength of Uncle Loren.  
May God grant those close to him and left behind a joy as they recollect precious memories of a man who's life was well-invested in the lives of so many others.

Whenever Mom and Dad told me that Uncle Loren and Aunt Ruth were coming to visit us at the family farm in North Dakota, I was so excited.  Uncle Loren always arrived with a huge smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.  He and Dad loved to sit together and talk.  It wasn't long before Dad and Uncle Loren would be laughing and laughing.  They loved to exchange jokes.  They loved to be together.
Uncle Loren was a gentle, yet strong, man.  He had a depth of character and integrity that I deeply admire.  He loved just being with his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.  He was a great brother to my dad.
I remember when Uncle Loren came to visit Mom and Dad when my husband, our children, and I lived in North Dakota.  He attended church with us, the church Jeff, my husband, was pastor at.  Uncle Loren was quiet during the service, but I could see the spirit of God in his eyes as he listened and worshiped. It was a joy to have him with us.  Uncle Loren's faith and trust in the Living Lord was quiet, genuine, and steadfast.  
How I marvel at how deeply his joy was when he entered the eternal living presence of his Lord and Savior.  
Uncle Loren is deeply missed.  He was such a wonderful uncle to us, a wonderful brother to my dad, and a very kind and caring brother-in-law to my mom.  Please know of our sympathies to you, Larry and Lyle and your families, in the passing of your precious dad, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  
Uncle Loren was very much loved.
He will be missed.

I well remember Pastor Loren Wahl.  My family was one of the congregation at Maple Leaf Baptist Church during those boom years when Pastor Wahl led us.  Those were some of our happiest times and he will always be remembered as important part of that happiness.  It was he who baptized me during a mid-night ceremony.

We were neighbors to the Wahl family in the 1960's and Loren was an active and robust figure: wresting with his Toro lawnmower, busy building things and target practicing with bow and arrow.  He was an attentive listener and he gave excellent advice.  But it was his sense of fun and fellowship that made the Church thrive in those times that I remember most of all. 
 
We were with Loren the evening of the Columbus Day Storm of 1962, driving back from the Friday night Church league at Palladium Bowl --- harrowing. It was Pastor Wahl who officiated at my sister's wedding and, later, he helped my father navigate some real estate transactions.

My heartfelt sympathies to the Wahl family but surely there must be some joy in the knowledge that his was a life well-spent.
