1929 – 2019
Lois Ethel (Day) Bell, 90, went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2019, after a very brief illness. Born and raised in White Center, Lois graduated from Highline High School in 1947. Lois married Melvin Wilmoth Shannon of Eugene, Oregon in 1957. Melvin and Lois welcomed their son Michael in 1959. She and Melvin ultimately divorced, but continued to share the love of their son. Lois made a career with Presbyterian Counseling Service. She was hired as part-time administrative assistant in 1961, went full-time shortly thereafter, then stayed on for 30 years! She was an integral part of Presbyterian Counseling Service until her retirement in 1991.
Love struck Lois a second time when she met James O. Bell. James and his late wife were blessed with three children. When Lois and James were married in 1981, they both graciously embraced their new blended family as one. Lois had many lifelong friends with whom she communicated with right up until the weeks prior to her death. These special friendships date back to when she was just a 2nd grader at Mt. View Elementary School in White Center. Lois will be remembered as a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Bell, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include her 4 children, Michael O. (Jan) Shannon, Port Hadlock, WA; Mary (Martin) Mattson, Seattle, WA; Gary (Teresa) Bell, Snohomish, WA; and Sally (Marty) Bell-Stickle, Black Diamond, WA. She also leaves behind her beloved brother and sister, Mabel Long of Mount Vernon, WA and Jerry (Pauline) Day, San Antonio, TX. Lois was blessed with 3 grandchildren - Austin (Zuzi) Bell, Michael J. Callan and Kenneth Slater, and 7 great grandchildren - Mia Justina Bell, Max James Bell, Eli Joseph Bell, Michael A.T. Callan, Kiara S. Callan, Lucas Slater and Cameron Slater. She will be lovingly remembered by her entire family, numerous nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends. At Lois’ request, no services will be held. Remembrances may be made to Northwest Kidney Foundation or to your favorite charity.
