Lee Allan Giles Jr. was born to the union of Lee Allan Giles senior and Myrtle Burton Giles in Los Angeles California on June 21, 1929. He was their only child. Upon moving to Seattle, Washington, he attended Hawthorne Elementary school and Franklin High School. Upon graduation from high school he entered the US Navy on August 2nd 1948, where he was a gunner on a battleship during the Korean War. During his tour with the Navy, Lee, or "Al”, as he was commonly known, joined the boxing team and fought his way to the championship of the fleet in which he served; as a result he was selected to go three rounds with the then Heavyweight Champion of the world, The legendary "Brown Bomber "Joe Lewis. It was also his Naval experience that inspired him to attend college. Upon being honorably discharged in 1952, he enrolled at Seattle University on an athletic (basketball) Scholarship. He was a member of the 1953-54 team that had a still standing record of 26 straight victories, and in 2005 Lee was elected into the Seattle University Basketball Hall Of Fame as a member of that team. He later returned to Seattle U, where he earned a Masters Degree and ultimately his PHD in Psychology. He was a renowned social worker, and worked in many capacities as an advocate for troubled youth, as well as being the school Psychologist for the Renton School district. Lee married Edith Mae Gibson on June 26, 1954, and they had three children; Lance, Tony, and Kelsie. Edith preceded Lee in death in 2008, and Kelsie Diane Giles preceded her father in death by 12 days. Lee is survived by sons Lance and Tony Giles, Grandson Tyree (Yoshino), and Great Grandchildren Akiri Allan and Ryah Asano Giles. Cards can be sent to the family of Lee A.
