Leah was born in 1933 in Oceanside, Oregon. She graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle. In March 1951, she married Daniel Lester House, her high school sweetheart. They raised three sons, Robert, Richard, and Dan, and one daughter, Margie. In 1974, Dan and Leah divorced, and Leah entered the working world. She had multiple careers over the years, but her most rewarding was working in the health care field, starting as a nurse's aide, and retiring in 2007 as purchasing manager at Bessie Burton Sullivan nursing residence in Seattle.
Leah had a passion for gardening. Her yard at her home in Seattle, where she lived for 62 years, looked like a park due to her efforts. She belonged to the local garden club, and helped multiple friends and family with gardening tips. She could make a stick burst into bloom.
Leah was preceded in death by her father, Amos Helmick, and her mother, Lee, and her brothers Duane Helmick and Robert Helmick. She is survived by her four children, Margie, Bob, Rick, and Dan, and their spouses, and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family will miss her and cherish the valuable legacy of love and caring she left to all.
A memorial service is planned for summer of 2023.
