September 29, 1943 – January 23, 2023
Larry was born to Melvin and Freda Garbe on September 29, 1943, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Larry was raised on a farm in Bloomer with his older brother Jack and younger sisters Judy and Darlene. Larry graduated from Bloomer High School in 1961. In 1968, Larry and Jack moved to Washington, and both made it their forever home.
In 1970, Larry met his one true love Sally, and they were married 7 months later. In 1973, they welcomed their first son Steven and in 1976 they welcomed Scott. In 1976, Larry and Sally bought their home in Kirkland. Larry loved to sit out front and wave at the neighbors.
Larry spent his career in the automotive field. He worked in the automotive department at Sears for 12 years between the downtown and Everett locations. On June 1, 1980, Larry was hired as a Route Salesman for Interstate Batteries. He was their first employee. Larry excelled as a Route Salesman and set many records that are yet to be broken. Spending his career with Interstate, Larry went on to become their Sales Manager and always encouraging his salesmen to “sell, sell, sell”. Larry was the employee everyone either wanted or wanted to be. He loved his job. In late 2013, Larry and Sally both retired and enjoyed retirement life together.
Larry enjoyed golf and was the epitome of a Seattle sports fan. He loved every team. You usually saw Larry in a matching t-shirt and baseball hat for whichever team was playing that day.
Post retirement, Larry bought his dream car, a 1957 Ford Ranchero and he had it painted to match the one he owned when he was younger. He enjoyed taking the Ranchero to car shows and won first place last year in the Lake City Summer Festival.
Larry, 79, passed away peacefully at Evergreen Hospital on January 23, 2023. Larry is survived by his wife Sally; sons Steve (Trina) and Scott and his grandchildren Laine (Aaron), Lacy, Jesse, Jaedelyn and Anika.
