Kim Sa Lawson passed peacefully on September 22nd, 2020 surrounded by loving family and mementoes of a life well lived. She was “mom” to four children and their spouses, and “grandma” to seven now approaching adulthood.
Kim was born in Bac Lieu, French Indochina in 1928. By the time her third daughter was born, she was in Saigon, South Viet Nam. In the late 1960s the war and increasing activity created jobs for thousands of Vietnamese. Kim took a position in Human Resources at the Saigon Post Exchange – the “Walmart” of American service members.
At the PX Kim met Alfred Lawson, a senior Air Force NCO. Alfred married Kim and adopted Thuan (16), Hoa (9), and Loan (7) and brought all to the US in 1967. After Alfred’s military service ended, they settled in Seattle where he worked for the US Postal Service. Their son, Hoi, was born in 1969.
Kim is survived by Thuan Howard (Jeff), Hoa Rao (Ramesh), Loan Arce (Jeff), and Hoi Lawson (Kelly). Due to Covid a limited private service is scheduled. In lieu of flowers or other considerations, please support the charity or cause of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Evergreen-Washelli.com for the Lawson family.
