Julian was born on April 13, 1926 in General Natividad, Philippines to Cristino Nicolas and Rufina Padama, the youngest of five siblings.
He served during World War II at the age of 13, fought in The Great Raid of Cabanatuan and received a Congressional Gold Medal in 2017 for his bravery.
Driven to better himself and his life, he graduated high school and then pursued a law degree in Manila. There, he would reunite with his childhood friend Zoila and get married before he graduated. Their two children, Caesar and Cecilia were born while he pursued working for the Department of National Defense. The family would move back to Rizal Nueva Ecija as he worked for the Commission of Elections and took on the family business.
Julian immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s and worked for the University of Washington Hospital’s patient financial services department for about 30 years. The rest of his family eventually reunited with him in the U.S. by the early 1980s. The immediate family all lived together in Seattle by 1992.
Julian enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an avid gardener, folk dancer, rock collector, newspaper reader, coffee drinker, scratch/Lotto ticket and sudoku enthusiast. He was active in the church with his “Bukas Loob sa Diyos” (Open in the spirit of God) group. He traveled to various holy and pilgrimage sites in Europe with Zoila and visited the Philippines with Cynthia, his daughter-in-law.
He is survived by his daughter Cecilia, granddaughter Czarina, daughter-in-law Cynthia, son-in-law Stan, and great granddaughter Eva.
He is dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
