Josefina Soriano del Castillo Macaraeg was born in November 18, 1948 in Lingayen Pangasinan Baybay Maniboc to Alfredo and Virgina del Castillo. She was the 3rd born and only daughter in the family. She has 4 brothers: Arthur, Abdon, Jose and Modesto. In the Philippines she finished her Bachelor's degree in teaching and she met our father Oscar Macaraeg in 1970. They got married January 14, 1976. They both moved to Yakima, WA in 1977 and then to West Seattle in 1978 where mom lived and hosted countless people for over 36 years. Mom enjoyed helping people and she spent most of her career in the healthcare industry. 16 of those years were at Providence Mount St. Vincent in West Seattle where she worked as a dietary host serving her residents and patients. At the same time she took care of me and my younger brother Cliff and of course our father Oscar. She is the rock of our family. She taught us how to pray, love, respect, cook and of course to be hospitable. The house door was always open to old and new friends and family members. She loved to cook, garden, give motherly advice and made sure we were going to church. She was a simple woman and enjoyed the little things in life such as having a clean house, finding unexpected money in her pants pocket, a fresh caught fish or crab, high quality meat and a phone conversation just to chat. Daughter, Sister, Mother, she will be dearly missed but not forgotten. She died peacefully by her husband and two sons on Friday July 25, 2014 at 1:27am PST in Seattle, WA.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
Amen.
