John S. Satterthwaite passed away on January 5, 2013. He was born on October 2, 1924 to Priscilla and Leslie Satterthwaite in Seattle. Graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1941 and then attended Washington State College. He joined the United States Seabees in 1942 and served in World War II mainly on Guam and was a member of the Tokyo Bay Occupation Forces. After his military duties he returned to Washington State College and graduated in Civil Engineering in 1951. That same year he married the love of his life Karol. They lived in Portland, then San Francisco where he worked for Bechtel Construction, later was transferred to oil refinery projects in Northwest Washington. He moved on to Tacoma and then Seattle where he was a Construction Manager for a Commercial General Contractor. Later he formed his own Commercial Contracting Firm, Engineers-Contractors. His love of the business showed in the quality work and the many successful projects his firm completed for among others: University of Washington, Port of Seattle and several Public School Districts. He and Karol retired in 1999 to their home in Shoreline.
John enjoyed his family and friends, was a long time Mariner and WSU Cougar supporter and season ticket holder. He was an avid fisherman and boater, also enjoyed traveling with his wife Karol. Model Trains was also his favorite hobby.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Karol, daughters Debra (Steve), Linda (Tom), and Julie (Kelly) and son William (Mary) and grandchildren Jeremy, Ryan, Kyle and Kaitlyn.
