Known as Johnny to his many friends and acquaintances in the Seattle and Portland areas, John passed away on March 3rd after a sudden heart attack. He had a good sense of humor and his own unique sayings and nuggets of wisdom. John had his struggles in life, but he is now at peace.
John was born in Denver, Colorado, to John and Kathleen Reardon. His parents divorced while residing in Ogden, Utah where he spent most of his young childhood. He, with his brother and sister, moved to Missoula, Montana in 1975 to live with their father who remarried and moved the family to Beaverton, Oregon, in 1978. John enjoyed sports and participated in baseball, football, and basketball. He also enjoyed riding and working on dirt bikes.
After various construction jobs John joined Seven Seas Fishing Company in 1987 as a production foreman on a fishing vessel in Alaska. He married Jill Vala in 1992 and the couple had a child, Amber Jayne, in 1993. After he divorced in 1995, he continued to work in the fishing industry as a production foreman and assistant engineer on fishing vessels on the high seas, mostly in Alaska. Seriously injured on the job in 2011, he was forced into semi-retirement and remained in the Seattle area.
John is survived by his daughter, Amber Murphy (Patrick) of Portland, OR; his father John Reardon Jr and stepmother Cathi Reardon of Newberg, OR; sister Rhonda Quayle (Tim) of Port Ludlow, WA; brother Brad Reardon (Toni) of Boise, ID; half-sister Jennifer Domes (Matt) of Newberg, OR; stepbrother Justin McLean of Portland, OR and step grandfather Harold Nygaard of Newberg OR. He was preceded in death by his mother Kathleen Tuck of Long Beach, WA.
The family is planning a private memorial sometime this summer.
In memory of John’s kind and loving heart, donations may be made to the Providence Heart Institute in Portland or your local Addiction Treatment Center.
