John Bong Chin passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2023 and is survived by his wife of 48 years Motan Diana, sons Jeffrey (Shelly) and Davin (Shirley) and grandsons Anthony, Benjamin, Andrew and Ethan. He was born in Guangzhou, China in 1932 and lived in Guangzhou and Toisan before immigrating to San Francisco at the age of 14. John served as an interpreter in the US Army during the Korean War, and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked in industry before going on to a long career designing scientific instruments at UC Berkeley and the University of Washington. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who is dearly missed.
