Joanne Marie Garrity

Joanne Marie Garrity, 88, left her earthly life on June 9, 2022 attended by her adopted sister Tarseal (Judy), friends and caregivers. She was predeceased by brothers Stephen, Andrew and Joseph Marcelia and best friend Kitty Clark.

Joanne graduated from Holy Rosary School in West Seattle where she excelled in academics, sang in the choir and was elected athletic representative for her class. After a short turn in the Navy, Joanne joined Boeing. She ended her 35+ year career there as manager of the Employee Records Department, responsible for maintaining all the records of Boeing’s Washington based employees and interfacing with all other departments who needed that information.

After Joanne lost both of her parents within 3 months at the age of 22, she was invited to live with her friend Kitty’s family in West Seattle. Joanne and Kitty traveled the world, played on Washington and Oregon beaches, took family camping trips and became avid birders and rock hounds. She was a great neighbor, boss and friend, always interested in helping others no matter the task. Though dementia took her away mentally several years ago, her legacy remains through the people she touched. Thank you to the caregivers at Evergreen Senior Home for ministering to Joanne these last four years.

A graveside service to honor her life will be held in the Rose Garden at Forest Lawn cemetery in West Seattle on July 6 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Audubon Society, Alzheimer’s Association or animal welfare agency of your choice.
