Joan was born on December 3, 1930 in Carmi, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond R. White and Pauline (Stroud) White. Joan was raised in Mount Vernon, Missouri until 1944 when the family moved to Seattle. Joan, who went by "Jo" attended West Seattle High School before meeting her husband, John, in early 1947. Jo worked at Rhodes Department Store in the early 50's before starting a family. Jo and John lived in West Seattle, raised their family, and were married for 68 years until her husband passed.
Family and faith was everything to Jo, and when not taking care of family, extended family or friends, Jo was a member at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church of West Seattle and later served as a deacon at Seattle First Presbyterian Church, with her husband John, after he retired. Jo was a devoted mother, wife, sister, auntie and friend. She was warm, supportive and kind to all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Jo is survived by her daughter, Jessica Joy Lee and her husband, James Pike; sisters, Clari (Robert) Davis and Mary Jane McDaniel; brother, Carl Leroy White; granddaughter, Sheri Wegner; great-grandson, Gavin Urquhart; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her daughter, Jenny Sue (1976) and husband, John (2016).
