Jerrie and her brother Jack grew up in Laurelhurst attending Laurelhurst Elementary and Roosevelt High School. She spent many summers in Hood Bay, Alaska at her father’s salmon cannery. Jerrie entered the University of Washington at age 16 and joined Delta Gamma sorority. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1943 and married Navy Ensign George Fliflet on September 8, 1943.
During WWII, Jerrie worked at KOL radio, broadcasting commercials and dedicating songs to George on his ship in the Pacific Ocean. After the war, George and Jerrie lived in Seattle and welcomed a son, Dean in 1949 and a daughter, Laurie in 1951. In 1952 they built a summer home in Indianola to enjoy the salt water beach and boating. Later George and Jerrie cruised the Northwest waters on board their boat named after Jerrie.
George and Jerrie traveled to Maui each spring to play tennis, snorkel and swim with their close friends. After George’s death in 1993, Jerrie traveled with friends, snorkeling in Costa Rica, Belize, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Great Barrier Reef.
Jerrie was an accomplished and dedicated volunteer. Starting with PTA and her children’s many activities, she supported the Seattle Milk Fund, was treasurer of the Roosevelt Golden Grads, President of the UW Alumnae Board and served on the Board of Directors of the University Federal Savings Bank.
In 2011, Jerrie moved to Mirabella Seattle where she enjoyed the community of friends, and her library, swimming and knitting buddies.
Jerrie loved being with her family and is survived by her son Dean Fliflet (Chris), daughter Laurie Westphal (Brad), grandchildren Ian (Monica), Garrett (Megan) and Nate (Jessie) Fliflet, Taylor White (Aaron), Shannon Minarsch (Stephen), Kerry Stratvert (Kevin), and Jack Westphal (Meagan) and great-grandchildren Landon and Emma Fliflet, Henry and Parker White, Alex Westphal and Thomas Stratvert.
