Jean Rendall Arons

She grew up in New Jersey, graduated from Mt Holyoke College with a BA in Astronomy, and worked at Harvard College Observatory before marrying Arnold Boris Arons in 1942. He predeceased her in 2001 but she is survived by her four children, Marion, Janet, Kenneth and Paul, five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

While her children were growing up, and Arnold was a physics professor at Amherst College, she taught mathematics at U Mass Amherst and at a private high school. She was also very active in the League of Women Voters.

They moved to Seattle in 1968. Jean and Arnold were world travel enthusiasts and were equally happy retreating to their secluded cabin in the Cascade Mountains.

Jean was an avid reader, and an active participant in the weekly hikes organized by the spouses of University of Washington faculty members. She taught herself Greek so she could read historical works in the original. Active to the end, and living in her own home, she kept herself stimulated in her later years by taking classes through the Life Long Learning program.

She will be missed.
