Born and raised in West Seattle, Jan lived most of her life in the Fremont District where, as an entrepreneur, she successfully owned and operated the Daily Planet Antique Store - first with a business partner, then on her own, throughout the late seventies, eighties, and into the nineties. Jan will be remembered as a magical and mercurial creator of Art Nouveau lamps. She was generous, bigger than life, outspoken, ready to laugh, and quick to connect deeply with people of all walks of life. She was always ready to help and befriend those down on their luck, and she took time the time to help anyone who showed the least spark of desire for transformation.
Jan is survived by her partner in life Ken Stebbins; stepdaughter Kerry Stebbins and her daughter, Ellie; stepdaughter Lisa Drews (Bill), and their children: Chase, Kyle, and Sarah; stepson Kenny and his children: Tim and Kenny Jr., stepdaughter Pam Navickis (Mike) and their children: Kim, Tony, and Andrew, and stepdaughter Paula Gossett (John) and their children: Heather, Andrea and Shawn.
Jan is also survived by her brother, who is next-of-kin, David Cole (Carol); the family of her late sister, Cathy Pond: Bill Pond, Traci Starr (Geoffrey), Darrin Pond, and Shelly Larson (Byron); nieces and nephews: Ryan, Michael, Kaitlyn, Meagan, and Alexis as well as great grandnephews: William, Sage, and Hunter; her relatives in Australia, and her parrot, Chip. She is also survived by Marsha McAllister, her dear friend.
The service is followed by a reception at the home of her brother Dave Cole: 9557 1st Ave NW, Shoreline, WA. Please RSVP to Dave Cole at jdcole4@frontier.com (or call 206-963-2905) if you will come to the reception.
