Issaquah, WA. Jim was born on July 5, 1929 in Springfield, MO to Hazel R Estes (Forester) and Milton J Estes. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley C Estes (Potter) and his three children, Cheryl A Janowicz (Larry), James R Estes Jr (Keri) and Robert A Estes (Stefanie).
He has six grandchildren, Julie A Janowicz, Chris J Janowicz (Amy),
Alexandra N Estes-Ryan (Chase), Andrew B Estes, Sabrina L Estes and Ryan J Estes. He had one great granddaughter, Scarlett M Ryan.
Jim graduated from Springfield High School in 1947. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps. After three years, he received a Congressional Appointment to the United
States Naval Academy. He attended Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, RI prior to entrance to the Naval Academy.
After leaving the Naval Academy, Jim moved to Seattle, WA where he continued classes at the
University of Washington and began work with the Boeing Company. He started work as a
draftsman and over the years progressed to a position of Professional Engineer. Jim worked on
a variety of programs at Boeing to include the Bomarc, B747, Saturn V, Lunar Rover, ALCM,
Mars probe, with the final program working as a Program Manager of the Navy E6A TACMO
aircraft. His legacy is, Jim would move wherever he was needed and do whatever was required.
Jim and Shirley loved to travel, and after retirement they saw many parts of the world, from the European continent, Hawaiian Islands and Alaska. Jim was an active and longtime member of Overlake Park Presbyterian Church. Jim enjoyed golfing at his community golf course, Tam O’ Shanter, where he and Shirley lived in their home for 56 years. This August 15th would have been their 69th wedding anniversary.
Jim was always a loving husband, a caring and supportive father, and a good friend. He
will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
