Jack Fleming Cavanaugh was born in Palestine, Arkansas on September 6, 1922, son of Albert and Callie Mae Cavanaugh. His family lived on a farm. At the age of 10, he was given his own plot of land to grow cotton and earn spending money. He valued work and family throughout his life.
Jack served in the US Navy in the Aviation Ordinance Division during WWII, as a Turret Gunner. While stationed in Seattle at Sandpoint Naval Air Station, he met the love of his life Vivian Gewalt. Jack and Vivian settled in Seattle making their home on Magnolia Bluff for sixty-six years. In 1950 they purchased property on Lake Roesiger which today continues to be a favorite summer retreat for the entire family.
His southern hospitality was experienced by many as he enjoyed lifelong friendships and created new ones along his way. Jack shared good times through golf, hunting, fishing, The Twenty and Five Dance Club, and lending a helping hand.
Following his retirement from the Exxon Corporation in 1984, Jack and Vivian wintered in Lake San Marcos, California. They enjoyed travels throughout six continents. A most memorable vacation was taking their family of 22 to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th Wedding anniversary in 1996. His dedication to family is considered a model and legacy by his children and grandchildren.
Jack led a conservative life, but was generous with others. He did not leave any unfinished business behind and was able to pass in comfort and peace.
He is survived by his wife Vivian; Sisters Marguerite Rogers of Little Rock, Arkansas and Jo Wren Cavanaugh of West Memphis, Arkansas; four daughters Jackie Keller (Biff), Sallie Cowgill (Terry), Janie Stack, Patti Fickel (Mark); 12 grandchildren Callie (Dennis), Annie, Paul (Ana), Leah (Nick), Kim (Travis), Russell, Summer, Seth, Katie (Marcus), Susanna (Kyle), Lindsay, and Brooke (Stefan); and great grandsons Blake, Myles and Brady; and his many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
