Seattle, WA - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of J. David Hansard, a beloved father, brother, and uncle, who left this world on December 21, 2023. He was 84.
J. David Hansard was born in Everett, Washington, and spent most of his life in the beautiful landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a teacher at the Redstone Arsenal Missile School in Alabama, later returning home to finish his college education and earn certification as a public accountant. He provided accounting services for businesses, individuals, and charitable organizations, and spent a number of years teaching accounting at North Seattle College. His expertise and dedication left an indelible mark on the many lives he touched through his professional and charity work.
David's first marriage was to Janet Allyn (nee Sammons), at the same time adopting Janet's daughter Cindy, and together David and Janet had their second daughter, Michelle. David and Janet joined lifelong friends Skip and Shirley Daniel to form an a capella quartet known as The Sound Tracks. The group recorded an album of original and cover tunes, performed at live events, and even recorded local radio commercials. David and Janet sometimes performed professionally as a duo, and they shared their love of music with their children and extended families at family gatherings and vacations.
After David and Janet divorced, David's second marriage was to Jill Hansard (nee Daddow), becoming a father to Jill's son Aaron. David and Jill shared a love of the ocean, spending many of their years together living in Ocean Shores, Washington, and building cherished memories on Hawaiian vacations. During this time, David joined a men's barbershop chorus, The Northwest Sound, and performed with them in shows and competitions. David and Jill enjoyed touring with the chorus to locations such as Austria, and were both active in the barbershop organization SPEBSQSA (now called the Barbershop Harmony Society).
In his later years, David became Jill's primary caregiver during her struggle with MS. David stood by Jill's side throughout the progression of the disease, providing not only physical care but also emotional support, until her passing in March of 2021. Their journey was a testament to the depth of his love, as he devoted himself to ensuring Jill's comfort and well-being.
David is survived by his loving children, daughters Cindy Hansard and Michelle Dockrey, and son Aaron McKee, along with his sister Mary and his many beloved nieces and nephews. David's legacy extends beyond his professional achievements, as he leaves behind a family who will forever cherish the memories of his warmth, wisdom, and love. Those who knew David will remember his infectious smile that could light up any room. He was a loving presence, and his kindness touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to J. David Hansard, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, music, and the enduring impact he leaves on those who had the honor of being a part of his journey. May he rest in peace, his memory forever etched in the hearts of those who loved him.
