Long-time Seattle resident Irma Remedios Galsim Lobo, age 74, passed away on May 5, 2022. Irma was born on December 27, 1947, in the Philippines, the daughter of Remedios and Remigio Lobo. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1966, Irma was soon employed by AT&T for several years before the company evolved into U.S. West. She was a manager before leaving after nearly 25 years. Soon, she transitioned to an exporting company. Later, Irma completed her work history at the University of Washington’s Harborview Clinic as a Healthcare Coordinator in the Spine and Specialties Department.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Arturo (Chris), and Ruben (Grace), a sister, O’Felia “Ofie” (Cornell), and a niece, Maria Isabelle (Tony). Irma is survived by a brother, Conrad (Sherrill), and a sister, Sue (Peter). Her nephews and nieces loved her, and she enjoyed their connections. They are Priscilla, Rey (Tammy), Tessie (Michael), Edwin (Janet), Abe (Kris), Anthony (Kristen), Andre (Darcel), Ciana (Chris), Jimmy (Flo), Riccardo, Romero “Roddi” (Magdalena), Pete, and Remy. Irma loved and cared about her family, all her nephews, nieces, many great-nephews and nieces, and extended families. Irma stayed in touch with her numerous cousins, relatives, and friends in the Seattle area and U.S.
Irma's many interests included Filipino culture, theatre, art, hula-dancing, Native American Indian culture, and martial arts movies. Two of her favorite singers were Englebert Humperdinck and Don Ho. Irma volunteered on parish councils and various committees at St. Benedict and Sacred Heart churches for many years, and she donated to several charities. As a member of the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites (OCDS), Irma’s spiritual name was Irma of Mary Immaculate. Irma's faith in God never wavered, and she was a devout Catholic.
Irma was very much loved and greatly missed by her family and friends. In our language, Tagalog/Pilipino, she was "malakas" and "matapang" - tough, brave, strong, determined, and courageous. She was also kind, gentle, funny, supportive, generous, and loving.
Grant eternal rest to your daughter, Irma, O Lord, and may Your perpetual light shine upon her face.
