behind a large and loving family and a legacy of entrepreneurial spirit, athleticism, and dedication to family.
Harold was born August 16, 1923, in New York, to Harry and Esther Gorelick, and he attended Seattle's Madrona School and graduated from Garfield High School. He trained as a glider pilot in the US Army. He attended the University of Washington on the GI Bill, earning a degree in business in less than two years. He married Diane Pearl in 1948, and for 70 years they celebrated life together, their home the center of many family celebrations.
Harold was the co-founder of Thrifty Supply Co. and many associated businesses. He was the classic entrepreneur, passionate about business and creating new enterprises.
Harold was a lifelong athlete. Decades ago, he started running daily, far ahead of his time. He was an accomplished skier and tennis player, and a graceful swimmer and diver.
Harold was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey, and is survived by his wife, Diane; his children Howard, Jody and Steve Bellar; grandchildren Madeline Bellar, Leanne and Seth Gordon, Rand Bellar; his great-grandchild Eli Gordon; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves three brothers, Morris, Edward and Donald. His family is grateful for the kindness of his caregivers, Michelle Bacani, Francisca Escobar, Marta Mengesha and Alemtsehay Tefferi.
Family services have already been held. Remembrances to the charity of your choice.
