Herald D. (Bow) Bowman Sept. 27, 1921 Jan. 4, 2017 Herald was born in Casanova, Michigan and moved to Sparta, Michigan with his parents as a young child. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1942. He joined the U.S. Army Nov. 21, 1942. He was assigned as a radio operator in the Alaskan Aleutian Islands of Adak, Shemya, and Atau. He then transferred to Seattle.
It was during this time he met his future wife, Phyllis Katzenstein, at a local USO dance. He was discharged on Feb. 10, 1946, and he married the love of his life, Phyllis, in June 1946. Herald was a life-long United Airlines employee. He started at United March 18, 1946 as an aircraft mechanic, working originally at Boeing Field in Seattle and then at Sea-Tac Airport until his retirement Jan. 1, 1984.
Herald was a friendly, outgoing man, who traveled extensively with his wife, going on a world tour and numerous vacations. He was an avid skier, and the family spent a week every winter in Sun Valley.
After retirement he and Phyllis became "snowbirds," spending their winters in Quartzsite and Yuma, AZ. He kept his sense of adventure into his 90's, even though he had problems walking and had limited vision; he would hop on the bus or his scooter chair and travel around Federal Way. Herald was preceded in death by his sister Gertrude and brother Laverne.
He will be missed by his wife, Phyllis, his sons, Allen Douglas Bowman & Stephen Cory Bowman, their families, & his many friends.
