As a young child her family moved to Seattle where she grew up and later attended West Seattle High School. After graduation she attended the University of Washington where she joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and received her degree in Sociology. Always a Husky fan she cheered for the teams until the very end.
She worked for Pacific Telephone Company for eight years during which time she married the love of her life, Jim Crum. They moved to Mercer Island and enjoyed 52 years of marriage which included camping, adventures around the US, and traveling the world.
Helen was a loving mother, very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren, and regularly volunteered for various boards and committees. A special trait was her ability to maintain friendships throughout the years through regular social gatherings with friends from high school, Gamma Phi Beta, First United Methodist Church, her neighborhood, and from Mercerwood Shore Club where she played tennis until she was into her 70’s. She was lucky to spend her last years at Covenant Shores where she fostered additional friendships.
Helen is survived by her daughter Nancy (Scott), son Gary (Gloria) and four grandchildren, Riley, Katie, Kelly, and Ryan. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM January 28, in the Fellowship Hall at Covenant Shores on Mercer Island, WA. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in her name to Providence Hospice of Seattle 2811 S.102nd Street, Suite 220, Tukwila, WA 98168 or
