Gloria Schwartz Newman passed away February 9, 2019 at the age of 83. Born in Chehalis, WA, to Nate and Esther Schwartz, Gloria moved to Seattle in 1953 and lived in Bellevue until her death. Following a year at the University of Washington, Gloria worked at Frederick and Nelson and The National Bank of Commerce. After her first marriage to Al Almeleh, she began her journey as an exceptional mother to her two children, eventually going back to work at a real estate office, medical clinic and law firm. With a passion for helping others, upon her retirement, Gloria volunteered at Overlake Hospital for over two decades and loved visiting with the patient’s families.
Gloria’s greatest joy was her family. Her children Geri (Steve) Capeloto and Larry (Kelly) Almeleh as well as her four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Kurzrock, Natalie, Alex and Jack Almeleh have been the center of her life. Her calendar revolved around attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities as their greatest cheerleader. She loved family get-togethers, never wanting to miss a party. Dinner with her children and extended families was special to her, always serving their favorites – BBQ beef ribs, “orange rice”, salad and a side of dental floss.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Gloria is also survived by her loving brother, Ken Schwartz, sister-in-law Joanne Schwartz and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her loving brother, Harold Schwartz and husband, Buddy Newman.
Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Henry Kaplan and the Swedish Cancer Institute. We are also eternally grateful to the passionate staff at Skyline Terrace Rehab Center for the loving care and support they showed to Gloria and our family.
