Born in Webster, South Dakota, in 1942, Gary was the third child of Elmer and Ester Fisk and younger brother to Everett and Boyd. After his mother passed in 1951 and his father married Lydia in 1953, Gary gained a dear step-mother and adored step-sister, Elaine. He graduated from Bradley High School in 1961 and joined the Army National Guard.
In 1962, Gary moved to Seattle. He attended the World’s Fair hosted in Seattle that year. After attending Central Seattle College, he joined the Boilermakers Union local 104 in 1965 and became an accomplished ship fitter. He retired in 2006.
Gary loved his adopted city and the waters surrounding it. He spent his free time fishing and crabbing in Puget Sound. Upon buying his home in 1976, gardening in his yard and greenhouse became another passion. He tinkered prolifically and always had some small project he was working on in the garage.
In the early 1980s, Gary met a pen pal who would change his life forever. He began corresponding with a woman in Indonesia — Jovita, his future wife. After exchanging many letters and visiting her a few times, Gary proposed in 1982. The two were wed in Indonesia while it poured rain outside on February 7, 1983. They were blessed with their only child and son, Christ, that December.
Fatherhood, fishing, and gardening were the light of Gary’s life. The family had many adventures aboard Gary’s boat, “The Fish Market.” His prolific green thumb kept the family home surrounded in greenery. Family vacations, life milestones, and family life filled Gary’s photo albums for his last 40 years.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, and brother, Everett. He is survived by his brother Boyd, wife Jovita, son Christ, and grandson Lucas. His body will be cremated and his remains scattered in the waters he lived around and loved.
