Frank Lynn Rogers, 95, of Seattle, passed away on August 10, 2020, of natural causes. He was born February 7, 1925, in his family home in Manassa, Colorado. He was the third of six boys, and in 1937 at the age of 12, his family moved to Paonia, Colorado, where he attended high school. In February 1943, he was drafted into the Army at the age of 18.
Frank served during WWII, ranked Staff Sergeant E6, and received a Silver Star for his valor. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery from an injury he sustained from a sniper shot to his thoracic spine. After his medical discharge in June 1945, he attended Colorado University where he studied Mechanical Engineering. During this time in December 1945, he married Gladys Mae Covington, who was a high school friend. Gladys passed away in 2014 after being married to Frank for almost 70 years. Frank is survived by his five children; Donald, Richalyn, Pamela, Gaylene, and Martin, 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, the oldest being born on his 94th birthday.
His career(s) included Mechanical Engineering, Salesman, Deep Sea Charter Service Owner and Sea Captain. Frank’s first priority was his family, but he also loved fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, hunting and loved the freedom of riding his bicycle.
Frank was a dedicated member of his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and enjoyed serving a Family History Mission, with his wife, for 18 months, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He spent much of his time volunteering and loved serving in the Seattle temple for 37 years. He was also always seen first in line donating blood. He had a needed rare blood type and gave over 40 gallons in his lifetime.
Frank was a man of mental toughness with qualities of sacrifice, dedication, service and optimism. He overcame any setbacks or obstacles life threw his way and helped others in their times of struggle and need. He was a true example of kindness and will be dearly missed.
