Evelyn Marie White, 86, passed away September 1, 2023 in Renton, Washington. She was born August 30, 1937 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Joe and Minnie (Wesolowski) DeSautel and grew up in Fairview Montana. She met her husband, Harlan Johnson, in Sidney Montana and they moved out to Washington state in 1955 where his sisters lived. Evelyn lived with his relatives until they married on February 21, 1956.
Evelyn was full of energy and loved to serve in whatever capacity she could. She worked for many years in banking doing a variety of tasks, starting at University Savings in the U District and after moving to Renton working as the ACH coordinator until her retirement at First Savings Bank in Renton in March 2002. She loved music and singing; she and her four older sisters performed on the radio and other events in Montana when she was young. She loved animals, was particularly fond of cats, and would not stand for any kind of cruelty or harshness to any creature. She loved things neat, clean and orderly and found her greatest joy in helping people fix things and solve problems. She had a compassionate heart and was generous, always ready to help out in material ways where there was a need. She loved to work in her garden and took great delight in beautiful flowers and trees.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Harlan in 1984. Evelyn married Douglass White in 1988, he passed away in 2003. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Alan and Lynette Johnson of Maple Valley, Bryan and Lisa Johnson of Palouse, Carolyn and Dave Callow of Kent, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and her sister Clarice Heather of Las Vegas.
For the last year and a half of her life she lived at the AMC private care adult home in Renton. The family wants to extend our thanks and gratitude to Marcela the owner, and the loving staff, Stephanie, Leonie, Helen, Lionne and Fayon. Our mother was truly happy there and loved all those caring for her.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen-Washelli cemetery on September 22nd at noon and a Memorial service at Panther Lake Community Church in Kent, Washington on October 21st at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
