Ellen sadly passed from us on October 15, 2021 in Seattle in the loving care of her family. For those of us who knew her, Ellen was Ellen. A creative do-it-yourselfer, she had a fun and adventurous spirit and was well loved by her family and friends. She was a multi-faceted gem and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Ellen was born to Paul and Jean Cadwell on October 4, 1950 in St. Louis, MO. The family relocated to Springfield IL where Ellen attended St. Agnes and Christ the King grade schools and Sacred Heart Academy. Ellen attended Illinois State University (ISU) and earned a degree in Library Science. Upon graduation, she was employed by Lincoln Library and worked at several branches in Springfield.
Within the next few years Ellen returned to ISU to become a certified Registered Health Information Administrator and worked at the CDC for about a year.
Upon returning to Illinois, Ellen secured a job as the Director of Medical Records – Health Information at Pana Community Hospital in Pana, IL. In 1997 she relocated to the Seattle area working at Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington, WA and later at Highline Hospital in Burien, WA. In 2010 she was named the Director of Health Informatics and Information Management at Shoreline Community College in Shoreline, WA, retiring from SCC in 2018.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Mark and Tom. She is survived by her brothers Matt (Robin) Cadwell, Mike (Dottie) Cadwell, Peter (Judy) Cadwell, Joe Cadwell, Jim (Roserita) Cadwell, John Cadwell, Bill (Patti) Cadwell, sisters Mary Ann (Tom) Darte, Kate (Jim) Mitchell, Elizabeth (Jeff) Gates, Theresa (Dave) Cox, sisters-in-law Joyce Cadwell and Lynnee Cadwell. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
A private interment will be held for family and close friends December 4, 2021. Arrangements under direction of Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, Seattle. A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at a later date.
