Ed Vernon became my brother-in-law when his brother Bill and I married in 1967.   He is the uncle to our two children who are now grown with lives of their own.  Although we have been at the same address with the same phone number for 46+ years,  we lost touch with  Ed maybe 30+ years ago.  What a sad loss with no relationships between siblings as well as uncle/nephew/niece.  They would have enjoyed getting to know each other.  I am saddened that Ed has passed and also to find out he was living in the Seattle area near the end of his life.  I have very few insights to his later life and found out about his passing through a paralegal who actually called on what would have been Ed's 70th birthday.  What a shock that he is gone.     He was so young!
Memories remain of Ed at their Vernon Christmas  in maybe 1967 or 1968 when  he decorated a magnificent Noble Fir tree with strung popcorn and possibly cranberries.  Maybe it is the picture of that tree and family that I remember the most.    Also, memories of his ordinations as deacon and then priest vividly remain with me.  He also came for birthday and  holiday gatherings at our home with his parent(s).  Family traditions are important!

He is missed.  My children feel the void of his absence in their lives.  We feel privileged to have shared those much earlier years with him as part of our family.

He meant a lot to our family.  Ed, may you rest in peace.  Jan  and family.   

My condolences on the passing of our friend and neighbor!  I met Ed at Our Lady of the Lake Church, when he brought Lorraine Thompson with him to Mass.  He was such a faithful companion to her.  I was delighted that,  at her funeral, Ed was thoughtful enough to share her legendary snickerdoodle recipe which he and countless other neighbors enjoyed!

My fondest memories of Ed were when our paths would cross on our frequent walks here in the Wedgwood neighborhood.  Even when the walking got challenging for Ed, he'd make a go of it.  We'd often stop and chat for quite some time, and had many heartfelt discussions at those random stops along 35th Av.  

He always had the gift of that wonderful smile.  I'll treasure his memory!  --  Cass
