Douglas Hugh Polonis, Sr., age 95, passed away on September 14, 2023.
He was born on September 2, 1928 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the only child of William and Ada May Polonis. Doug graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Ph.D; and from the University of Toronto with a Master of Applied Science. Doug worked at the University of Washington as a professor of Material Science and Engineering for over 40 years. Upon retirement Doug was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus.
Doug is survived by his sons Steve (Vilma) Polonis, Malcolm Polonis, and his daughter Christine (Randy) Mayner. Loving grandfather to six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Vera Polonis, and his son, Douglas Hugh Polonis, Jr.
