Born on September 29, 1928, in Lake City, IA, to Sheila and Glen Hardy, Dorothy grew up on a farm and developed a lifelong love for rural life. One of her favorite childhood memories was of her horse, Ginger. Despite her many attempts to mount the gentle creature, she would often end up falling to the ground. Ginger, ever patient, never seemed to mind.
Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings, Donald Hardy, Leiland Hardy, and June Richards.
As a nurse, Dorothy dedicated her life to caring for others. She embodied compassion and empathy, always going the extra mile to ensure the well-being of her patients.
Dorothy was a beloved mother to Daniel, David, and Barbara; a cherished grandmother to Hannah, Laurie, Rachel, Cameron, Amanda, and Samuel; and a loving great-grandmother to Liam, Cormac, and Leif.
Beyond her professional life, Dorothy was a pillar of strength for her family. She was always there to offer support, guidance, and love. Her dedication to helping others extended to her community, where she opened two assisted living facilities.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a non-profit senior facility.
