Doris Mae Garrett, born June 7, 1921, passed away March 12, 2015. Her parents were Ivah Guyer Teasely and Lawrence Teasely. From the time she attended school Doris used her stepfather’s name and was called Doris Mae Wilson. Doris attended Tacoma schools and graduated from Lincoln High School of Tacoma. She was married to Dennis Jack Garrett for 68 years. They had three children: Gary, Dennis Charles, and Sandee. During WWII Doris worked as Rosie the Riveter for the Boeing Company where B-17’s were manufactured at a rate of 3 per day. Doris worked as a car-hop waitress at Triple XXX Root Beer where she could carry three full trays at once. When she quit they had to hire two car-hops to replace her. Doris’s main career was in electronics assembly soldering the printed circuit boards which preceded modern technology. She was employed by several electronics firms as Lead Assembler and at one time had the distinction of being the first full-time woman assembler. Doris taught herself to play the piano and organ. She also enjoyed crocheting and ceramics. Doris was a wonderful wife and mother who cooked big family dinners and made a celebration of every holiday and birthday.
