Donna Marie Lapp was born on April 4, 1944 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Ruby and John Lapp -- John died in WWII when Donna was just a baby. Donna moved to Seattle from Victoria, B.C. in the late 1940's when Ruby married Ernest B. Lewis (Daddy). She was raised in the Seattle Central District, went to St. Mary's Catholic School and Franklin High School (class of '62).
Donna worked for Seattle Telephone Company and other office jobs, but found her calling in the Seattle School District. She retired after working many years with students in Special Education. Donna made lasting impressions with the teachers she worked with, her students, and their families. At the end of her career and into retirement, Donna moved to Poulsbo, WA where she worked in Kitsap School District as a sub to support her ferry funds and gardening hobby.
When Donna started to show signs of dementia, her kids moved her to an assisted living community where she could be closer to family and able to engage in many fun activities with other residents. Donna was a fast favorite in her new home, joining in every event, and giving out hugs to all the staff and people living there. She loved to get picked up by family and go on outings and sleepovers. Donna passed away on May 23, 2020 after a brave struggle with Alzheimer's disease and cancer.
Donna is survived by her brother, Ernie Lewis; her daughter, Melody Hendershot; her sons, Garth Bolster and Zakary Taylor; her grandchildren, Mitchell, Jessica, Kaleigh, Kory, Jordan, Blake, Grace, Isaac, and Malcolm; six great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and loved ones. Donna is preceded in death by her son, Eric Bolster.
Donna was a beautiful, fun-loving person who was a fierce lover of life. She loved flowers, arts and crafts, wine, being "spoiled", shopping, all things sparkly, music, parties, family, friends, and most of all, hugs and kisses. She left a lasting impression on anyone she met with her infectious laugh and open arms. We will all miss our Mama, Auntie, Sissy, Nama, Nehneh, Darling, Nana, and the list goes on...
A memorial service will be postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Donna's name.
