Don was born in Seattle to Robert and Dorothy Weiss. Our beloved Don died of natural causes unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his favorite chair in front of a fire watching tv in our family home in Brier.
Don graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1967 and Shoreline Community College in 1969. After various other jobs Don began his career in the optical field. First with Northwest Northern rising to manager, Focal Point Optics and finally Eyes Rite Optical. He owned the Lynnwood and Woodinville franchises for many years. His final job was working for his brother Ray at Radiance Research.
Don pursued many interests over the years that included: running rivers in a canoe, spelunking, fishing, boating, repairing cars, carving Native art, reading, amassing an impressive movie collection, watching televised sports and listening to music. His favorite times were all the adventures with family and friends such as: relaxing times at Sandy Hook on Whidbey Island; vacations on the Oregon coast, the beaches of Hawaii and in the beauty of Banff; camping throughout the Northwest (particularly Sun Lakes, Denny Creek and Deception Pass) always with a blazing campfire, plenty of blue tarps as needed and a healthy amount of bug spray.
Don was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 49 years (Bernadine) Linda; his children Jason, Matt (Kate) and Michelle (Jason) Duckowitz; by his grandchildren Annabelle Woods, Fiona Weiss and Holden and Ellis Duckowitz; his sister Vicky Foreman and his brother and best friend Steve (Claire); and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray and Ray's wife Egle, brother-in-law Mel Foreman, in-laws Bernard and Margaret Waterman, Hank Bencala and his favorite dog Chili, our always entertaining Jack Russell terrier.
