On December 13, 2022, Dolores Taylor, a loving wife, mother and grandmother of two, passed away in a tragic accident as she was getting ready to leave work. Although her family’s hearts were broken at her sudden passing, Dolores will be remembered not by her death, but by the beautiful life she lived. She was a kind, sweet woman, with a loving, generous heart and she touched countless lives throughout her 66 years on this earth. But of all those who were lucky enough to know her, her family was the most blessed. She is survived by her husband, their two children, Stephan Taylor and Jenny Kiiskila, her two granddaughters, Eleanora and Emmeline Kiiskila, and five of her brothers, Ronald Green, Kenneth Green, Robert Green, Michael Scalzo and Edward Scalzo. Her brother, Jerry Green passed away in Spring of 2022.
Dolores was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Dorothy and Lloyd Forsell, who preceded her in death. Early in her childhood, her parents moved their family to Seattle, Washington, where she lived the majority of her life and where she met her husband, Ronald Taylor at church, just after graduating from Evergreen High School. Dolores was a truly devoted, loving wife to her husband for 46 years. During that time, they had a son and daughter, who Dolores cherished and raised with calm, gentle patience, and a model of unfailing love that they will carry with them always.
While her children were in high school, Dolores decided to go back to school to obtain an Associates Degree from South Seattle College, where she was hired part-time. After more than two decades working at South Seattle College, she made her family so proud by working her way from being a part-time work-study in the Financial Aid Department to Interim Director of Financial Aid. She was a kind, dedicated colleague, often working into the night or on weekends to help her coworkers. But what her colleagues will remember most about her was her dedication to the students she served. Dolores was truly devoted to helping young people get ahead in their lives. She was in charge of Veteran’s Affairs and she was most passionate about this special group of students that she called “her veterans.”
In recognition of her remarkable and outstanding service to this group, South Seattle College has established a scholarship in her name for student veterans in need. In honor of her memory, her family asks that you consider making a donation to this scholarship in leu of sending flowers for her funeral, which will be a private service for family. However, South Seattle College will also be hosting a memorial celebration of Dolores’ life on Thursday, January 19th 2023 at the Brockey Center, South Seattle College from 2-3:30 pm. A reception will follow from 3:30-5:30 pm, with refreshments provided. Everyone who cares about Dolores and her family is invited to attend.
