I have been looking in my Dad’s journals to find entries about when Dan worked on the ranch,  but I am not having luck as I can’t remember the summer he came out. I do remember he was training for professional football tryouts and would run from the house to the JackStone Road and back, about 4 miles round trip.

I was so thankful we were able to get together in Kalispell two years ago, what a blessing to have had that time!

Daniel Sigurd Hage - son of Siver Hage

Blood of my blood - son of my fathers brother - Dan Hage and I were born into a closely knit extended family.  Early in our lives we came together when our fathers came together - as cousins do.  Our visits were frequent because of the family bond - and we lived close. Then later, on our own volition, Dan and I shared many interests.  I saw Dan as a mirror image in many ways - another big Norwegian blockhead - with a lot of ambition - and heart.

Dan and I both attended the same high school, Chief Sealth, and the University of Washington.  Although years apart the alma mater connection was visceral.  Dan excelled at football.  Then after college and hiring on at Boeing his interest in football found him a role as coach for an inter mural league.  When his team played in Sedro Woolley Dan visited me in Acme.  My job had taken me far from home and the visits by family were incredibly warm and welcome.  

After my return to Seattle in 1987 Dan and I regularly got together.  His family, wife Chris and daughters Haily and Lindsay were a joy to experience growing up.  Dan was a full time nurturing father - and proud of his family.  And I was proud of him.  They hosted a family Christmas for many years including the Hage-connected Hammonds, Margels and Chris’ relations.  Dan and Chris were regular participants in super bowl parties at my home (and left with their share of winnings).  We also shared a life long cross-family love of our pets.

I always felt a special closeness to Dan - we could just run into each other and simply start conversation where we left it at our last contact.  My cousin - and touchstone, Dan.  Loosing him is a tragedy that is deepening by the day.  I console myself that he is now free from discomfort and I miss him dearly.  Fare thee well, Daniel.

The wonderful gatherings in WA and MT are where I had the great good fortune to enjoy countless favorite memories and the most enjoyable pleasure of your company.   Grandpa Dan, Uncle George, Aunt Olga, and Montana family will soon once again welcome Dan, all too soon, but as always with great warmth, Love, and admiration.  Dan, you are missed, Loved, and remembered with much fondness and forever have  a special place in my heart.

I’ve always known Dan to be a wonderful person, father, husband and friend and he will be missed greatly! A gentle giant and great protector of his family💕 Rest in peace Dan🙏

Susan I are deeply sad with the news of Dan's passing.   He was a big bear with the kindest of hearts.   We will miss him always and especially when we gather with family on our trips to Seattle.   I am lucky to have known him over the many years since we met in 1959.      We look forward to seeing you all and sharing hugs and memories.    Susan and Evans

My Uncle Dan will be missed. I appreciated the home he and his wife Christy made, always welcoming and open to myself and my own little growing family.
I am so glad my kids got to know him. And, I will always appreciate the ways he encouraged me growing up from showing up to visit a relative at the same time I did in a recovery facility to hiring me to photograph two kids' soccer games (that $20 when I was a teen meant a lot to photograph my cousins).  
While I do not have any great photos of him as my Uncle, I do have this fun photo of him as a big brother to his 2 younger brothers to share. You can see his steady smile amid the chaos of a classic Christmas tradition to visit Santa.
We will hold him in memory with gratitude.

Dan was a true friend. Very honest and caring. He was extremely proud of his family and liked to brag about their accomplishments. I will miss your friendship and comradery. Rest in peace my friend. My sincere condolences to Family.


Dan loved his family more than anything else.  He always smiled when he updated me on family events and accomplishments. We enjoyed our friendship for 35 years. Rest in peace dear friend.
