Cy attended Whitman College and received an AB in Business Education & Economics in 1950. While at Whitman, he met and fell in love with Margaret E. Goodge. They married on March 3, 1951.
Cy served in the U.S. Army from 1950-52, after which he enrolled at University of Washington and received a BS in Pharmacy in 1955. He was a registered pharmacist and was president of Joseph Hart, Inc & United Drug, Seattle from 1953-1969. He worked in several Seattle area Pharmacies, including Bartell Drugs, until 1994, when he retired, and continued as a private pharmacy consultant.
Cy was a life-long member of the YMCA of Seattle, joining in 1933 and served as an advisor on the Y’s Health Committee Municiple League from 1955-1969. He was also active in the Arthritis Foundation, served as an official in the WA Track & Field Officials Assoc, and was a member of the American Legion.
An avid outdoorsman and conservation activist who cherished the beauty of the forest, he spent many happy summers with his family at Priest Lake. He was also a life-long athlete who enjoyed running, hiking, swimming, gymnastics, bicycling, and canoeing.
Cy is survived by his wife Margaret, children Henry (Alfreda) Hart, Hiram Hart, Cynthia (Joe) Williamson, and Hal (Suzette) Hart, and sister Mimi (Hart) Lord. He has 7 grandchildren (Eva (Jeff), Benjamin, Alexander, Ashley, Sarah, Ian, and Aaron), 2 great grandchildren (Bella and Mia), and nieces and nephews. Cy was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Eva, and his sister Judy.
A celebration of Cy’s life will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 11:30 am at Bleitz Funeral Home, 316 Florentia Street, Seattle 98109. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Cyril E. Hart can be made to the YMCA or the Arthritis Foundation.
