Clifford William Ireland II was born on October 27th, 1944 in Yuma Arizona. “Kim” (as he was known by his friends and family) passed away peacefully, with loved ones by his side on March 16th, 2022 in Tacoma Washington.
Kim's family relocated to the Pacific Northwest when he was a young boy. The family lived in the Seattle area and spent summers at the family cabin located on Wollochet Bay in Gig Harbor. Kim attended Highline High School in Burien followed by enrolling at the University of Washington. Kim was also enrolled in the ROTC and upon graduating from college in 1968, he transitioned to an active duty 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army. He and his family traveled to Germany where he served in the 23rd Engineer Battalion that protected the Fulda Gap from a possible Russian invasion. After completion of his time in Germany, Kim went to Saigon, Vietnam and served on a team that helped to transition military leadership from the US to the Vietnamese, earning the Bronze Star during his service. Kim completed his military service, leaving with the rank of Captain.
Kim loved to design and to build, earning his college degree in construction management. During his career he worked in several areas of the construction industry and spent the final chapter of his career running his own business “Ireland Construction” where he enjoyed helping customers with a multitude of home remodeling projects.
He had a lifelong love of boating and was a skilled waterskier in his youth. Kim also enjoyed fishing and crabbing the waters of the Puget Sound and loved to take family and friends out with him. He enjoyed many years of boating in the San Juans and later around the waters of Whidbey Island where he shared a vacation home with his wife Mary.
When not on the water or entertaining friends, Kim could often be found working on household projects or helping friends and family with theirs. He loved to help others and would always lend a hand or offer a helpful idea when one asked. Kim was also a voracious reader and enjoyed the writings of many authors.
In closing, Kim’s true passion were his family and friends and the memories that were created while spending time with both. These shared memories will remind us of his kindness, generosity and his love for so many individuals in his life. He will be deeply missed.
Kim was preceded in death by his son (Step) Charlie. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; siblings Wendy McCoy and Patti Hammond; sons; Randall, Scott (Step), Jason and Peter (Step), and 5 grandchildren, Alexandra, Steffan, Abigail, Emma and Charlie (Step).
A memorial, meal and a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 30th at the family residence in Normandy Park.
