Chuck passed peacefully on November 24th surrounded by family. He was born on August 4, 1936 at Seattle General Hospital. His parents were Glenn William Whiteman and Margaret Strouse Whiteman. Chuck lived on Queen Anne Hill where he attended John Hay Grade School and Queen Anne High School. He loved football; played his first year in the King County Sheriff League and then three years at Queen Anne High School. While he was in high school he joined the Naval Reserve for 8 years. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1955 and enrolled in the University of Washington. He joined Alpha Delta Phi fraternity where he served as V.P. his senior year. He was also V.P. of the University Men Students, member of the Oval Club, and Bachelor’s Club. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1959 with a Degree in General Studies. In his senior year Chuck met Ginny Souder, fell in love, and they married in May of 1960, a marriage that lasted 63 years. Ginny and Chuck were blessed with two wonderful children, daughter Cathy, and son Tom.
Chuck’s first job was with United States Gypsum, serving as a sales representative. He then worked for Columbia Cement Company, serving as sales manager and later Vice President. He left Columbia Cement to open Ready Mix and Portland Cement market for Genstar. He established Ocean Construction Supplies which later merged with Cadman, where he served as Vice President and General Manager. He retired in 1998. He served on the Board of Directors for the National Ready Mix Association, the Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association, and the Associated General Contractors. He was a long-time member of the Washington Athletic Club, Sahalee Country Club, and the Gallery Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona. He was an avid Husky Football fan and enjoyed fishing and golf.
Chuck was a very kind man and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His family meant everything to him and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He always put family first. He will be dearly missed.
His is survived by his wife, Ginny, his daughter Cathy (Todd Radcliffe), son Tom (Allison) and his grandchildren, James, Katherine (Griffin Janney). And Sarah. He was predeceased by his grandson, Mo Radcliffe.
The family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
