Carl Raymond Heimdahl, age 98, of Seattle, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Carl was born in Seattle, Washington to Swedish immigrants, Isaac and Esther Heimdahl, and was the third of four children (Margaret, Eleanor, and Clarence). Carl and his family lived on Sunnyside Ave in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle through the passing of his mother and sister (1937) and into his teen years. In 1943, at age 18 Carl enlisted in the United States Army and was sent overseas to the European theater during WWII. He served in Germany and the United States where he became a tank Cannonier in the 9th Armor Division and a Sergeant. Carl was discharged from service in 1946, he had lost his father (1945) and soon after his brother (1947).
After the war, Carl traveled the world with his friend from Seattle, George Blomdahl, and settled in Sweden in 1950. There he met the love of his life, Tea-Greta Pettersson and in 1954 they married in Simrishamn. Carl and Tea started their family with the birth of Karin and a few years later Dan. In 1960, Carl moved his family back to Seattle and began work as a tool and die maker for Boeing in 1961. He retired in 1990.
Carl’s family, both immediate and extended, was very important to him and they enjoyed going on trips and picnics with the Blomdahls, Welkers, and many others. He relished staying in touch with friends and family from across his lifetime and around the world.
He was a devout Christ follower and member of Seattle First Church of the Nazarene for many years where he served on the board and supported the functions of the church. He consistently supported and stood up for the things he held dear, and his quiet strength was indicative of the things he was most proud of. Carl would go out of his way to help someone in need, a truly selfless man, and was quick to point out morality to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, and he was well known for his love of Tea’s cooking, specifically, apple pie and spareribs.
Carl is survived by his wife Tea-Greta Heimdahl, his children Karin (and Phil) Kinzler and Dan (and Cindy) Heimdahl, grandchildren: Kaylene Hoyt (Jason), Kyle Kinzler (Alyson), Korey Heimdahl (Tasha), Kris Kinzler (Rachel), and Jordan Heimdahl, and 6 great grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service for Carl will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, following the service a reception will be held in the celebration hall. 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
