On the evening of October 3, Bobby slipped quietly and peacefully into Glory, taken away from us after a short illness. He will be terribly missed by his family and the many many friends he has met over the years.
Bobby was born on November 13, 1949, in Changhwa, Taiwan. He immigrated to the United States in 1966 and lived in Bellevue, then in Redmond until his passing. Although handicapped as a child, he grew up to become a productive adult and worked at the University of Washington’s Food Services for almost 30 years until his retirement in 2008. After retirement, he stayed active by volunteering weekly at Hopelink.
Bobby loved to be around people and always greeted children and adults alike, with a welcoming heart and a hearty smile. He cherished his independence and being out and about on his own. In his younger days, he enjoyed walking to and exploring various places on the Eastside. He was often out all day and only returned home when it was dark. His ORCA card and the Metro bus afforded him opportunities to expand his social circle and territory. In recent years, he was frequently sighted on the bus to Downtown Seattle, SeaTac Airport, Southcenter, Bellevue Square, McDonald’s, Ivar’s, and other places we have yet to learn about. His ability to use and navigate the public transportation system was an amazing feat. He had a regular routine for going to certain places on certain days. One of his favorite routines is helping with the children's Sunday School at Westminster Chapel. Although Bobby didn’t say much in words, his mild manners and his smiles enabled him to communicate effectively with others. He enjoyed his outings tremendously.
Over the years he crossed paths with many people, most of whom we did not know. It was not unusual to be out around town with Bobby and run into people who stopped to say hello to him. He certainly knew lots of people!
In his way, he connected with everyone he met. He left us with many treasured memories and a huge void in our hearts.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Evergreen-Washelli.com for the Wang family.
