Efthemia "Babe" Carras passed away peacefully into God's hands at home July 16, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born May 27, 1931 to George & Eugenia "Nena" Carras in Seattle and graduated from Lincoln High School. She was lovingly known to everyone - both family and friends - as "Auntie Babe".
During her career, she worked at General Electric, Western Airlines and Delta Airlines. She used her airline employee flight privileges to travel around the world, including to South America, Europe, Mexico, Asia, and even flying with friends to San Francisco and back for lunch.
In her younger days, she spent many weekends with her sister Kiki and Dan. She would drive up in her car which always had a name. The first one was Persephoney #1. She really liked that name so each car after that became Persephoney #2, #3 and so on. She loved taking all the kids for rides in her car. She would come with her cousin Vicki Melonas and the kids would take turns getting a ride around the neighborhood in her convertible. The neighborhood kids could hardly wait for Auntie Babe to come as she always brought popsicles for them or would take them to the store to buy penny candy.
Football was Auntie Babe's favorite fall & winter pastime. She couldn't wait for the season to start. Everyone knew not to call or ask Auntie Babe to leave the house on Saturday or Sunday during football season, as she was sure to be watching the week's games, regardless of who was playing (and she participated by yelling at the TV like a member of the crowd).
Auntie Babe spent many weekends with family on Whidbey Island. She was a great cook and loved both to create new recipes and make old favorites. She always made sure the presentation was perfect. She hosted many family holidays in her home and when she did, we always knew there would be plenty of delicious food. Auntie Babe had an amazing sense of humor and could make you laugh with her facial expressions alone. She devoted her life to her family. To say she loved all her nieces and nephews would be an understatement - she loved them like they were her own children. Auntie Babe often said, "it's a good thing I didn't have kids because I would have spoiled them rotten," which she did to all the kids in her family and in the neighborhood.
Later in life, she took up painting, starting with no experience and developing into a highly skilled artist. When she first started, she hung each new painting on her wall. Very soon all the walls of her home were filled with her paintings. Auntie Babe was very proud of her work, and now her paintings hang in the homes of many family and friends.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Gloria Carras, nieces Connie Marble, Danielle Griffith (Bob), Cindy Armstrong (Jim), Georgene Scholey (Sean), Michelle Stephens (Chris) and Aunie Willig (Eric), along with numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Nick G. Carras, sister Kiki George, brother-in-law Daniel George, niece Debbie Comstock, and nephew Brent Comstock.
Her presence will be greatly missed and the memories she made will be forever cherished by her family and friends.
We would also like to thank her exceptional caregivers Asya and Hilina. They have given her many years of love and care and have been a blessing to both Auntie Babe and her entire family
