Arlene, the eldest of 4 children, was born on March 22, 1937 to Leslie and Opal Lamb in Seattle, WA. After graduating from Queen Anne High School in 1954, she went on to study education/teaching at Cascade College in Portland and Western Washington University. Arlene had a passion for teaching and started her career as a special education instructor at Latona Elementary in the Seattle School District following graduation. She would continue teaching for the next 36 years, retiring in 2005 from the Kent School District. Even after retirement, her passion for education led to continued work with students as a tutor and mentor.
Arlene married the love of her life, Chris Bruhn, in 1971 and they had two children, Christian and Peter. They were married for over 43 years prior to the passing of Chris in 2014. Arlene was an avid sports fan, cheering on her Huskies, Seahawks and Mariners through thick and thin (mostly thin with the latter). Arlene also loved to travel with her family and friends, including many camping trips and ocean vacations with the Gallaghers.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Bruhn, parents Leslie and Opal Lamb, brothers Dennis Lamb and Gary Lamb, and her sister, Judith Smith . She is survived by her sons, Christian Bruhn (Andrea) and Peter Bruhn, her brother-in-law Lloyd Smith, nieces Shawn (Doug) Kemp and Kim (Ray) Siglin as well as great-nieces, cousins, and friends.
There will be a celebration of life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Seattle Union Gospel Mission.
All are welcome to sign the online guestbook below and add any messages or stories for the Bruhn family.
