Tony was born January 6, 1957, in Seattle Washington to Jane and Peter Gauthier. He graduated from Glacier High School in 1975. In High School, Tony was active in football, baseball, and basketball, but he really liked football and his position as linebacker the best. He served in the United States Army from 1975 to 1978. He was stationed in Italy and during his time there, he helped the citizens dig out and clean up after a major earthquake. On leave, he enjoyed traveling through the Alps. On his return to the United States he carried heavy Italian marble items in his duffel bag as gifts to family and friends. Over the years, he worked for UPS, Boeing, and Qwest.
Tony was very proud of his property on Rapjohn Lake in Eatonville Washington. He liked working in his garden and being self-sufficient. He loved his dog Tiber and his prized Camaro. Tony was reclusive, stubborn, and set in his ways. At the same time, he would help others as he could. For example, he liked helping his neighbors with landscaping projects.
Tony enjoyed hiking to fishing lakes, fishing in Canada, and river fishing with his Grandpa Murphy, his father, and his brothers. Tony liked to read, especially the classics. He enjoyed seeing and hearing from his nieces and nephews and learning what they were up to.
Like many, he suffered financially after losing his job because of the economic downturn of 2008. He was a proud man and did not ask for help.
During the final months of his life, family enjoyed reminiscing with Tony about the places he traveled and the many fishing trips and outings that he remembered.
He is survived by his siblings: Ann (George Cline), Michael (Helen), Mark (Linda), Catherine (Larry Godsey), Loretta (Kevin Concannon), Patrick, and Thomas, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Humane Society in memory of Tony’s love of dogs.
